Aerodrome Costs of completing reclamation unchanged

namely $738,000 but additional sums of 275,000 required for covering nullahs and 23,500 for acquisition and forming a flight gap on the north centre. These additions strongly recommended by local Air Force Officers. Cost of resumption from Kaitak remains unchanged 1,000,000. Total revised cost therefore 2,036,500 of which we should hope to recover at least 500,000 by sele of outlying portion(s) eventually not necessary for the aerodrome. I consider it essential in the interests of the Colony from civil as well as military point of view that this scheme should be undertaken at once and I recommend that it should be financed by loan in the same manner as Shengmun Water Works scheme (my despatch of 20th September, No. 399) approve a sum of $1,000,000 should be made available at once for resumption. Telegraph whether I may negotiate with the Company. Despatch follows by

mail.
